Here's my situation...I am going dove hunting Saturday on our 600ac lease. There are two ponds that have always been pretty good hunting. This year there isn't any corn planted...there hasn't been in 4 years. There is only soy beans and cotton planted. Will the doves be attracted at all to the soybeans and watering holes? A buddy told me it would be a "waste of my time" to go hunt the soybean field with a pond in it.

I haven't dove hunted in quite a while and I was really looking toward to going. Anyone think the ponds, soybeans, and cotton will be a waste of my time?
 
Dove don't feed on soybeans at all? What about the watering holes? It's not even worth a shot in anyones opinions? I read some articles from ark game an commission saying that it's a big controversy whether doves use soybean fields or not.

doves will eat the beans, after they have been combined.

Doves will use the water but you will be sitting a while to wait on a limit, prolly wont see any numbers at all, they will be were the easiest food source is!!

If the ponds have a good dirt bank that is bare (something resembling a mud hole or a pond that is drying up) you may get some water hole shooting, but if the water goes all the way up to grass or brush, I'd say your wasting your time.
 
The pond is muddy all around with brush on one side only. I have done pretty good there in the past, but soybeans weren't planted there. A field about 50 yards from the pond usually is planted with corn and the roads that run through the property are gravel roads. I am hoping these factors will help the hunt. Neighboring farmers usually plant corn so I am hoping there will be enough birds around for an entertaining afternoon.
