Dove gun ?

I am going to buy a new shotgun for dove hunting and i was going to get some recommendations from yall. Wantinig a semi in 12g, $900 limit.
 
I'd get a Beretta 390 or 391. The 390 can be found for about $600 and the 391 with synthetic stock can be found for right at $900. IMO, they are a much better built shotgun.
 
I'm with firefox sort of. If its only for Doves get a Benelli M2. I just don't trust the Stoeger's.

Might look and see if you can't find a M2 20 gauge used. (I know you said 12 but the 20's are sweet) If you do that you got a great grouse gun and other upland gun.

Don't know the price tag but those new Remeington 105 shotguns look sweet too.

For the money you cant get a better shotgun.
 
if soley for doves get a rem 1100. If used for other things get an 1187. I am not a shotgun guy, but I don't thinks I have ever heard anybody say they regretted buying either of them.
 
I have half dozen 1100's, but have shot the beretta and if was buying a new gun, would probably go that way.

I know almost every person that takes up serious clay target shooting that bought an 1100 or 1187 that regetted it. For the average hunter thay are OK guns, but for someone who shoots alot of shells like a clay target shooter does, they dont hold up for the long run, are finicky about light loads, and tend to stop working when they get dirty. They are a liabilty in competition, if you have 3 gun malfunctions in a tournament, every malfunction after the first 3 equates to a lost target. You just dont see Remington shotguns at a sporting clays tournament, I can only think of seeing 1 in 14 years of shooting sporting clays. Beretta autos on the other hand are everywhere, and they have an excellent reputation.
 
I had a Benelli M2 20ga. After the vent rib separated from the barrel TWICE AND the gun would not eject the shells after about 10 shots AND benelli REFUSED to tell me the problem, AND they kept it for 3 months, I sold the piece of crap and explained all issues to the buyer. I swore then, I'd never own another benelli as long as I lived, to me a benelli is nothing more than an expensive overrated stick.

If solely for doves, find a good used Belgium made Browning A5 "light 20". I just started using a Rem 1100 28ga last year for doves and loved it. I ordered several boxes of 1oz high brass shells and it has been the perfect little dove gun. You figure theres 7/8 to 1 oz of shoot in most cheapo 12 ga dove loads, so the 28 is really not that different.

I just bought an 11-87 today. I had an 1100, loved it, sold it, and regretted it. You won't go wrong with either for doves.
 
I have always wanted an over and under, but always find a rifle I want more. I bought a super lightweight mossberg 535 for turkeys that came with 2 barrels. I will be using the 28" with the improved cylinder this year. I have a mint belgian A5 browning and a new 1187, but I think I will try the pump. I will miss either way.
 
I got a first gen Beretta Extrema hardly used I may let go. Black
26in. All chokes case etc. Like new. I love it but don't use it much and prefer a 20.
 
Buy what fits you best. This is so important with a shotgun purchase. The imports do not fit me as well as a Remington 11/87/1100. The shooters across the pond also have different ideas on how a shotgun pattern is regulated as most cover the target on their swing. I have owned 4 Benelli M1`s and 1 Benelli M2. I now have a vintage Model 1100 sitting patiently in the corner. I bought a 2nd barrel (30" full) for it so I am good come early September. I might be built wrong or something, but picking up a Benelli Nova or Beretta 391 is like picking up something made for a 6'4" southpaw the 3 1/2 Beretta is the worst feeling shotgun possibly made for my frame. Try many brands, try not to decide on a brand before you shop, and give many of them a good many shoulderings at the store. Another comfy scattergun that fits me well is a Browning Silver.
 
I have a 11-87 in 12 gauge, but find that I am dove hunting more and more with my son's 870 pump in 20 gauage as I get older. I just prefer the 870.
