You click off the safety on the xbow, reach up to get up cause it's just dark enough to not be able to see the cross hairs, and 3 doe enter the field and park right next to your stand while dining on the food plot?? If I wasn't waiting for them to bring in a big boy I could have had any one of the three at about 15 yrds. :bash:

OK I would have shot a doe when lite enuf to see.a buck might Be the next target I'm a deer hunter not a horn hunter. Don't get me wrong a big buck would be great but meat in the freezer means more than a maybe about a big buck. It will happen at some point but weather its me or some body else I won't debate

Will never know what it's like to click the safety off on a crossbow, but I have kicked myself for not shooting a doe because I was waiting on a buck.

Already took a small buck a few weeks ago. These doe are regulars in my plot. There is little hunting pressure around here. They will be back. Not really trophy hunting, just attempting to be selective. Last year there were a couple big boys who came through during rut. I passed on a couple letting them go another year. This is that year. Doe bed is about 100 yrds from stand/food plot. Best buck bait I know.

With no meat in the freezer and off to a rally bad start (not seeing a deer from stand so far) wouldn't of been a choice for me Ida shot a doe in a heartbeat

Last thing I'm going to do is alert every doe in the area that they are being hunted hard. They'll pack up and go nocturnal or into deep cover and you can kiss your hope for a buck good bye. Not everytime mind you, but it's a good bet. I really think that's why I don't see 15-20 does every outing like I used to. Now it's just a trickle of 2s or 3.

No but, another old saying,,,, Nothing beats a nice rack!!

Also plays into management. Having lost the poacher two yrs ago to a jail sentence, numbers are starting to climb. Need to to help populate. The bucks will come to the area, gotta have the doe.

Curious how many deer was the dirty sob killing off of you? Or was more of killing a few and keeping most ran off by his stupidity?

He was shooting anything he could, anytime of day, night, or season, with any gun from rimfire to center fire, any anybody's property he could. I ran him off a few times. One time he had his boy (12ish) glassing a field while he sat with his 30/30 in the truck with them. This during bow season. Tried telling me it was OK cause he was looking for coyotes. They got him on poaching and theft. Found 4 wheelers and a bunch of tools. Fine upstanding citizen if I ever saw one.

Wow smh....and having such a terrible influence on his child is why this problem will never die...sounds like he needed an arse kicking along with the jail time....
