Done some testing today with questions

So I shot the factory full out of youth Mossberg 500 from 21, 31, and 38 yards. Why is the pattern so different from 31 to 38 yards is that normal? And I feel confident at 31 yards on killing a bird but probably wouldn't try it past 35 yds. Will a different choke have that much of an impact?

Agreed, and true with most factory full chokes unless you are shooting TSS where the shot string stays together longer "on it's own" without a tighter constriction choke.

For sure, especially with lead and heavier than lead shot (Hevi-shot) past 35 yards.

Looking at those targets, you have a 30 yd gun. Anything after that is chancy! The pattern can really open up after 30 without special chokes and loads. Here is where it gets expensive trying to squeeze out those extra 10 yds. TSS is an easy way to get there.

It's still 100% stock and will keep it that way this year and build it to suit me better for next season. This year just wanting to try and learn the art of turkeys in the woods. Movements, sounds, calls just trying to get a feel for it

7yds :) if the pellets are rotating and not going in a straight direction then 7yds they can move a good bit from center point. thats where aerodynamics of the pellets and shot type/size can make a big difference.

I didn't read it right. Yea just the regular "full" choke is probably only good for 35 yards

That's about right for a 20 gauge with standard ammo.

What shell, shot size (#6, #7, etc) and how many ounces of shot?

if you are sticking with those shells Id look at the 565-575 range
