Anybody ever donate their deer to the charities? I am thinking about doing it this year.

How does the process work? Do you have to go to registered processor?

Can you only do it at a certain time during the season?

Do you still have to pay the processor fees?

Nothing wrong with donating to hunters for the hungry but you are better off finding a family that needs that meat and get it to them IMO.
 
I've done it in the past for hunters for the hungry but currently there isn't any processors participating in it in my county. I've donated to some families before just paid the processing fee and brought them the meat. I've also donated some deer to the tennessee state park here in my county. They process the deer and freeze it and feed there hawks since the state cut there funding for that program. You mite check into doing that.
 
Ive donated dozens to Hunters for the hungry. Simply drop it off at a qualified processor and with 2 mins of paperwork its done.

I dont go through any organization, just know some people that will generally take them. This year Im trying to line up several people so I can do some doe control since Unit B archery limit has increased. With my Dad killing deer too, we cant eat all that need to be killed off on one of my places.
 
In nashville a place called Flowers will take any 2.5 year old or older deer and process it free of charge. I usually give them at least one a year. I've also ground up a bunch and just taken it to the rescue mission.

Sad thing is that some processor's want/need to be paid so they make other arrangements.

i'm pretty sure hfh pays them out of money they have had donated to them..
 
Thanks for wanting to give! HFTH partners with deer processors that are certified by the TN dept of Ag to process donated deer at a discounted rate. This rate is typically $40 or $45 per deer. We raise funding year long in each county to pay the processor for each deer they process, making it free of charge to the hunter. In counties where there is no funding, the hunters are asked to pay the discounted fee. Anyone paying the processor directly can receive a receipt for to use as a tax deduction.

Be sure to check back at www.tnwf.org in September to see the processors state wide with funding available to process deer for free and find the processor nearest to you.
 
flowers usually take 100 a year for free


most processors usually take a discounted fee of 40 dollars


i have donated at flowers and grissoms in greenbriar back when they were in business

but i also have a family in lavergne I give deer to and a church in nashville
