I wouldn't want one of my dogs caught in a homemade trap. At least the rubber jawed type are proven to hopefully not injure them to badly
I dont think this is completely accurate.. I own one of the "black holes" what makes it dog proof is that the trigger inside the cylinder must be pulled up to fire the trap.. since dogs cant grip the little trigger and pull up it would be next to impossible for a dog stepping on the trap to fire it.. on the other hand a coon will reach off into it.. grab the trigger and pull up, firing the trap..Turkey Ridge said:Deerdown....what you are describing sounds like a product on the market called the "Black Hole Trap-Trigger Assembly" This is not a true dog proof trap because the jaws of the trap are still outside of the "cylinder or pipe" The purpose of the design is to keep the raccoon from chewing at his foot from underside the jaws. A true "dog-proof" trap's spring or jaw holds the racoon's foot from inside the cylinder or pipe design of the trap. According to your description of your idea the only way it would be legal was if the trap had rubber jaws.
