Seeing Pat Henry's post the other day of his Boykin's 1st ducks got me to thinking. Those of us who hunt with dogs understand the bond between ourselves and our dogs, few can understand the bond between hunter and his best friend unless you've been there. They relish the hunt as much as we do if not more. They anticipate our every next move when they know the season is here. They rhythms of the dance, loading the truck, trailer, grabbing the shotgun they don't miss a beat. Tomorrow I take my Boykin, Dixie, for her surgery to repair her torn CCL. This will be my first season in the last four without her and I honestly don't have the same drive to go without her.
For those of you with dogs, I'd love to see some posted pics of you and yours on some of your hunts.

Nash. He's actually my cousin's dog, but I've hunted with the two of them for as long has Nash has been hunting. He even came to live with me for a couple years while my cousin was in college. Him and my son became pretty good buddies. This was also my son's first duck hunt. One of my favorite pictures.

Guys, just got back from dropping off Dixie for her surgery. Came on here and saw the pics and they brought tears to these old eyes. The older I get, the more sentimental I get I suppose. Those are some fine looking dogs! Mia is cracking me up. Dixie will hunt all day but when the action is slow after several hours she'll come out of her dog box and look at me as if to say "all right man, let's go where the action is cause it sure ain't here".

Update: She's home and has to wear the cone of shame for 2 weeks. Doc says keep her off tile and hardwood floors...that's what we have. Praying for healing and no slips/jumps/runs etc. She's already straining on the leash when outside cause she thinks she's ready to go!

Best retriever I've ever had and a high probability the best I'll ever have. Truly my once in a lifetime dog. She gave me 3 great litters of pups they're spread out from Canada to dyersburg and many points in between. I just had her spayed a few months ago and now she can play for the rest of her life!!!

Yeah I hunted her hard for the first 4 years. About year 3, I started getting her clipped short right before dove season and by duck season, it's grown back enough to protect her from cold water.

I'm digging all the LBD's on here. They're a great dog. Size is great, loyal like no dog I've ever had. They can certainly have their quirks BUT lots of drive.
