Been serious about getting after them this year and everything came together this am in fayette county public land doe. I was impressed with the performance of the hornandy 300 grain xtp .430 in 50 cal using 100 grain pellets and green sabot. Doe shot at 40 yards knocked her down DRT. Recovered bullet weight = 278 grains. Entry was base neck shot no exit, bullet was recovered laying on opposite wall skin just behind front shoulder. Angle shot entry from point of impact. Thanks to all for the tips it paid off today!
 
Congrats on a good looking deer! I shoot Hornady out of my muzzleloader and out of my rifles. Their accuracy and dependability is hard to beat imo.
 
Congrats! I've got the 300gr xtp in my gun right now, never kilt one with a muzzleloader, was gonna wait for a buck but today has been less than ideal with lack of a good tree to climb and then trespassers, so I guess I'll shoot a doe if it's about to get dark and if I even see one. Wish I had gone to public land today, but I will in a few days. Way to get it done on a nice doe.

I've used them for decades and recently was running low so I looked at other alternatives but came back to the .452 300 grain because it is a great 150 yard load that is very accurate. I took a buck Sunday and the bullet didn't hit a rib going in so it didn't expand much but put a .452" hole through the lungs. Deer was dead after running 50 yards. It wasn't designed for deer hunting and it is old school but it just works.
