Shot my 2nd doe, long story short my friend shot a deer also and he was getting down so I decided since I was going to have to get down I'd shoot one of the does standing in front of me (I was waiting for a buck). But anyways I made a perfect double lung with a little heart shot. Dropped 20 yards away. Then I decided I would try to process my own deer. That was a experience but in the end it wasn't toooo hard to do and I'll do it from now on. Its in a cooler with ice and water right now.

Congrats on the 2nd deer looks like you are stacking em. And yeah processing yourself is great on the wallet and also for getting the exact cuts you want

gratz! all hunters should learn to process their own meat. Do yourself a favor and keep the water drained off the meat, and just age it on ice. Better flavor for sure.

Got my 2nd bow kill tonight as well! Second try at processing too... I definitely need someone to show me how it's done. Reading bout it and YouTube videos don't compare to hands on stuff.

But he's in coolers on ice. Congrats. Let's get another so we can get more processing practice

Congrats to you too Gman! Quick question about processing, the like pretty thick layer of fat on the hind end do I try to remove that now? Or do I leave it on there till I get the meat off the bone and cut into pieces? When I cut out the back strips i got all the fat off just because it just kinda... came off without me hardly trying.

The guys with deer on ice in coolers make sure the drain plug is open. You want to let the blood and water drain. Not a good thing to leave the meat soaking in water. I try to remove all fat as soon as I can. It absorbs odors and can taint the meat.

Take off what fat you can while skinning. I just separate muscle sections when processing my deer and remove all white skin. I nothing but pure red meat when through. I don't use a meat saw ever. You can taint the meat sawing through bones.
