How many of you lease the land you hunt on? Or do some of you hunt for free?


I guess I am fortunate to be able to hunt a decent place for free. A lot of people in my area are paying well over $4,000 to hunt private land.
 
Both....I'm on a lease with a bunch of guys......decent hunting and great camaraderie....

Kill most deer on 10 acres I hunt for free 1000 yrds from the house, but love hunting with the guys at the lease and sharing camp....

I pay for my sportsmans license so I don't hunt for free. But I don't lease property either. I hope some day I can buy some land and let friends hunt on it, I'm not into the lease thing myself.

I hunt on some private land for free but they also let everyone that asks hunt for free also and it gets more pressure than the public land I hunt. I have tried to lease it or trade work for exclusive hunting rights but they won't do it.
 
I was one of four that leased a nice farm in Giles County from 2007-2014. It was 400 acres and we all got a couple of wall hangers in that time. I think the total was 2,500.00 annually so I paid 1/4 of that. Was very bummed when the landowner decided to stop leasing it. I received a call a couple of weeks ago and the 400 acre family farm is mine to hunt alone for free and forever. Things change. I'm in hog heaven now.
 
I hunt in a large private club with thousands of acres under strict QDM harvest rules. Besides the great hunting, I love the challenge of exploring new places and the comraderie of fellow hunters. Our deer get a lot of pressure but there is nothing you can do about it so you just hunt and enjoy. Somebody will kill a good buck and it could be me or one of my buddies. I am just as happy for them when they do. The club environment can be wonderful when it's done right and you have good people. If I had to go back to hunting a small property, I would have lost something special about hunting for me. Knowing that you can't possibly know every part of a property and that a good buck is there if you can find him gets me up at 4:00 am anticipating the hunt.
 
I hunt 99% of the time on public but have permission to 50 acres for free. Probably won't hunt it until gun though and will probably only try it a couple times unless I see something I like my first time out there.
 
I lease a small track. Public hunting around here is usually covered up in hunters. Most private land owners want allow hunting and ones that do only allow to farm hands and family. I'm always looking for new opportunities.
 
Have over 3000 acres in several different tracts biggest being 900 acres all private land and I don't have to pay anything. I keep the mentality that nothing is forever so I'm always trying to get more to acquire.
 
I hunt a small parcel of private land, but only about 15 acres of it is huntable. The rest I hunt is public. If I had to pay to hunt then I would have to quit.
 
I have permission to hunt several tracts of land for free...I'm always talking to landowners and trying to develop relationships year round with the goal of getting permission to hunt...I will be paying to get on a lease in Kentucky next year that is if I can't get permission to hunt for free before then...
