DIY gun blue

My Marlin model 60 needs rebluing. Is that liquid blue kit decent and is there a right and wrong way to do it?

The cold blue is ok to do a small spot.. I don't think I'd try a whole gun.

I did a whole rifle, a Marlin Glenfield Model 60. It came out awful. You have to get every drop of oil off. Sounds so reasonable, so easy. Every speck of dirt in every crack & crevice holds oil and the blue won't stick, creates a weird looking spot.

I honestly got into a battle with this 60, me against it. I cleaned and cleaned until I thought I'd lose my mind. Finally I got it done. The rifle had so many different shades of blue on it it was kinda cool.

If you are going to try this I counsel patience.

well considering I just rubbed oil all over it, I'm going to have to pass on the cold blue. Just will keep cleaning it and keep oil on it, like my black shotgun, and wait till whenever I decide to get it blued for real.

i did an outers cold blue on an old revelation(mossberg) shotgun that looked like a professional did it.

I've done 3 guns with the kit walmart used to sell and they all turned out great. It took some time and I wasn't really in a hurry. I put 3 or 4 coats on them to get it where I wanted them.
