Well the local farmers have killed over 100 deer out of their beans so far this year, we found 7 bucks piled up on the edge of one field last week. I can't even get excited, this is worse than its ever been.

Thats honestly pretty sad to hear. I know deer eat beans up, but there is no point in over 100.

Think of it this way, there is probably an ole big buck hanging out away from all that mess. He'll get dumb in the rut time and if u hang I'm there with him u may smoke him ! Don't get too down , it can still be done. Have family that kills more than 100 every summer and they still kill every season including nice bucks !

Hind sight here, but maybe if you offered to work with the game warden during the summer to shoot some of them deer maybe it will work out better for you.

I hear about this happening a lot, but most of these landowners that complain are the ones that they either want gold to hunt on their land or do not allow it period.

I was in the same situation myself before and come hunting season I couldn't tell a very big difference at all. They did it for 2 yrs in a row on my place. Both years they planted soybeans twice and both years they were never able to put a combine in the field for the deer eating them up. Finally they went to corn and milo to be able to get a crop in. But I'm in Unit L and we have alot of deer. So don't give up, you may still have a good year.

What area of the county are you speaking of? I heard quite a few shots this week in the Fall River/Copperas Branch area.

Our farm is in beans this year and of course, we've seen lots of deer so far.

We still have enough deer that I dont really plan on driving to far, I'm in unit L as well and the farmers I speak of have over 10,000 acres of beans! They will let me do the shooting if I please but I dont care to shoot them when their horns aren't hard and the wasted meat is what really tees me off. We still have plenty of deer I could probably count 40 this evening, so I really dont have a reason to complain I have it better than most it just aggravates me to know its happening

I have full run of their property and plenty of deer get killed, the actual farmers dont shoot the deer but one of them has an 18 year old son that gets his buddies together and shoot from the truck window all evening and night

Have you offered to help any of them out? Say offer to kill 15-20 does and show them how that is so much more effective than killing bucks? That is just exactly how I got permission 15-years ago to hunt one of the prime small farms in this county.

See, the thing is, then by golly you have to do just that. You have to kill does and show them to the landowner. After a bit, you can go buck hunting. But sometimes, you have to put your needs behind what it is going to take to get to those needs.

Wow, some parts of Unit L sure must have more deer than others. I'm in Franklin county which is on the southeastern corner of Unit L but we don't have anywhere near that many deer. They have hardly any impact on beans here. You can plant 1/4 acre of clover or whatever and it never gets eaten down. Not even close.

Hate to hear that many deer getting killed and wasted. Had seen something similar when I lived back in Michigan. Had permission to hunt one farm but the farm next to us wouldn't allow hunting. They didn't have a problem shooting a dozen deer or more every few weeks and stacking them up like hay bales.

whats bad is a lot of the does have really small fawns, I have three that the mothers where killed and left to rot. had watched them for several wks, then pulled up and seen buzzards, found one doe that had came off of me and entered a bean field. same thing a wk later. then would see the fawns by themselves wandering around. I know they hurt the bean crop, but it seems wasteful, especially with needy families. at least they wouldn't die and just waste. And for the record, forget any management practices. let a buck walk, even if he survives the season, then he enters a field in the spring and bam., its over.
