digital scales

With all the talk and questions being asked about reloading over the past few weeks (yrs) LOL, the item "digital scale" enters the picture more often than it did many yrs ago.

With newer, more modern scales and the industries release of their strong hold on costs of one the average guy can pretty much own one now.

I purchased a Lyman 100XP @ a yr. or so ago, I love it. I believe I picked it up on Ebay for a song(way less than other reloading brand name scales)I was always curious as to how accurate some of the "no name" jewelers scales you see listed for much less money were in comparison to mine. Well, a friend bought one of them and we ran a little test..............both scales read within 1/10 of a grain of each other (back and forth) on multiple random powder drops in the pan.

Bottom line.................his does the same thing mine will for nearly $50.00 less. They have them listed all over the net and Ebay, it is worth a look.

everyone that I have talked to out west will weigh cast boolits on digital just to speed up process

yet they still weigh powder on a beam scale

I have no idea.......but truth be known, I have never checked my beam scale against my digital. Don't know why, guess I never thought about it until now.

I gave my beam scale away right after trying a Pact digital for the first time. Just as accurate, but a whole lot faster and easier.

Can't speak for them but my uncle say the digtal are a bit too sens. for him. I feel otherwise. I really think its all in what ones gets use to.

I used the beam for years because of cost. I had been eyeing the Lyman for years and seen the cost continuing to rise about 5-10 per year unless you caught it on sale. I won a sales contest a couple years ago at work, and the company paid in gift cards instead of cash. I chose a Cabelas gift card, so that's how I got mine. I haven't looked at the beam scales since I got this one. It cut my reloading time in half, to say the least.

The reason I use a beam scale is that the arrow will move with a single grain of IMR4350, so with a trickler I vcan get all loads the same. Can a digital scale do that, or do you have to drop enough grains to get to the next tenth of a gr?

Having said that, I seldom weigh each charge anymore anyway. I adjust the powder measure and check that three throws in a row are the same, then I only check each 10th throw or so.
