Can anyone tell me what the different size lines mean on 3x9x40 Konus scope below the crosshairs? I've been told you place the line between the shoulder and rump of deer ( like a range finder sort of ) and the one that fits is the one you use for the shot. Not sure is this is correct and can't find anything on the web about it.

It's a bullet drop compensation reticle design. You'll need to spend some time at the range to determine how your rifle and load shoot in comparison with the hash marks but basically, you zero in at 100 with the main crosshairs and then each subsequent hash relates to a hold at longer yardage as indicated by the picture hunter7272 posted. A good range finder is almost essential to effective use of a BDC reticle when shooting longer ranges.
