Had a guy tell me to mix some diesel fuel in with 41% knock off brand roundup for food plots. Has anyone ever tried this? I was wondering will the diesel not get into the soil and kill the food plot seed?

This sounds like a good way to have bare spots in your plot. Probably illegal too.

Be hard to grow anything in soil contaminants with diesel.

I add a couple drops of Dawn dish washing soap to my Glysophate mixtures. I hear it makes it easier for the gly to be absorbed by the target plant.

Never used diesel before. What's supposed to be the advantage?

Diesel will kill plants if used alone. I've watched several old men use that to spray fence rows. Just like has already been mentioned, it has a prolonged effect in the soil or that's their claim. I watched my father spray the sides of his asphalt driveway with diesel instead of glyphosate. Btw, diesel will break down asphalt.
 
Ok thanks guys, he said it would help the roundup stick to the plants. I have used dish soap in the past. He said the diesel fuel was similar to additives you can buy at co-op. I have found several post online about it but I agree that it be best not to do it.
 
Most glyphosate products already have surfactant added. It doesn't make it stick better, but breaks the surface tension of the water so the droplets spread out and cover the plant's surface more evenly. Since diesel is oil soluble, I can't see how it would help herbicide performance in this application.
