Didn't see any deer but

Probably the craziest hunt I've ever been on. I am lucky enough to hunt about a mile or two from where I live, and my dogs very rarely will make their way up to were I hunt. Well today one did. I hear something trotting to my right and I look just knowing it's a deer and well it was my dog. So I went to take a picture and send it to my girlfriend, but right before I do I hear something else coming down the trial my dog just took. Wouldn't you know it I'd never seen a coyote up there but sure enough right behind her he was. Puzzled I waited to see what would happen between the two couldn't really get a shot for fear of shooting my dog. Luckily she growled and he took a step back I missed due to misjudging distance but I really didn't have time to range him.

what kind/size of dog? that would worry me but sounds like she held her own!

She was maybe half his size I'm shocked he even stepped back to give me a shot at all

I think it's becoming fairly common for coyotes to prey upon dogs and cats. I know several people who have had their pets go missing after turning them out to use the bathroom. I have an uncle in Ky who squirrel hunts with feists. He told me last year on two different occasions he had a coyote come in on his dog while treed. Luckily both times he was nearby and after seeing him they took off. He said this August on opening morning of squirrel season he took her out and on her first tree, as he was heading to her, she began whining and running towards him with a coyote right on her heels. Said the coyote was so distracted by chasing the dog it didn't even notice him. Said it came within 15 feet of him before he shot and killed it. Glad your dog was ok.
