I've been too busy to post much here the last few days.

On Monday, I took a vacation day and hunted all day. First time I've ever done it. Got in the tree around 5:25. Saw two deer between 6:00 and 6:05 - right as it was getting light. Sat in that tree until 12:30. Got down, walked across the field to stretch and snack. Got back in the tree after a bit and sat there until dark. That's about 11 straight hours without seeing a thing. :cry:

Like someone said in another thread... that felt more like a chore. I didn't much enjoy it. I had a vacation day scheduled for Tuesday also, but I worked instead. Moved my vacation day to Friday. I'll be out there morning and evening... but not everything in between!!

Yep it makes a long day when your not seeing any action. I usually take a pretty good nap on all day sits.

I've taken a few whole day hunts on public land during bow season this year, without seeing anything. Half the time I hunted during October I didn't see any. It's finally been picking up lately. When the rut is in full swing any time now I'd say its definitely worth an all day sit. Last year on November 16 I hunted the same patch of woods (private land) all day with a lunch break in between. I had does all morning and an 8 pt that took off chasing one of the does. In the afternoon that same doe came downwind and blew at me... A few minutes later, just after sunset, a different 8 pt came in by himself and I was straight up lucky to kill him on the 2nd shot after first shooting a tree. Some all day hunts may seem like a chore but some are worth it. But I work so I can sit in a tree and would rather be sitting in a tree than working..

I find it easier to get in the tree around 10:00-11:00 am and hunt till dark with the time change. That way you're getting the mid day hunt when hunters are leaving the woods along with the evening hunt.

allday sits can be mentally draining. If Im not seeing deer then I wont hunt all day. if the morning is good I will for sure. as catman said working big long shifts along with college makes those all day sits easy because I just love being out there and away from that junk.

Only time I do all day sits is when the rut is in full swing which for the most part is a 2 to 3 week span and then I only do it on the more ideal days weather wise. For the most part other than that its a waste of time cause they are usually laid up while your sitting up there suffering.

hunt start at one, may move to another at 10-11am then by 1-2pm over to another stand all depends on wind and activity

I've only done a few all day sits. Mainly at Oak Ridge on the draw hunts. I can't sit still all day. I like go home, eat, nap, smoke a little, then go back and hunt the last 3-4 hrs.

All day sits are tough, no doubt. I don't do them arbitrarily. Its usually based on the arut. The other times that I might do an all day sit is on a quota hunt.

Ditto. I have no reason to believe that deer will be especially mobile at this time (in my area of the state), so unless the weather is showing me something special to think otherwise, I keep it to 4- or 5-hour hunts.

This keeps me from burning out mentally, and it saves that ever-precious resource of vacation time. Some folks are different, but I know that I couldn't hunt 2 whole solid days in a row (for example) without seeing some good action, so I try to be really picky about when I do that.

Also, I absolutely hate dealing with a dead deer 5 minutes before dark, so I naturally tend to avoid evening hunts, anyway (only exception being the rare time when I have access to a 4-wheeler or boat to bring one out).

LOL-I have never had to sit all day. I always had someplace else I could go. I hunt for fun. If it stops being fun, I go someplace else.

Everytime I hear someone talk about hunting all day and killing a deer just at dark, I think, man, how much more fun that would have been if he had gone in and taken a nap, then, gone back about three and killed one right at dark.

I've never had to hunt all day either, but it doesn't have to suck, and I've done it plenty. I'll often take a nap midday. Sometimes, I'll take a book and look around every paragraph or so.

I rarely sit all day in one location. Where I hunt, the wind direction usually won't allow it (neither will my patience).

I like all day sits. I usually do it 4 or 5 times a year. But ive never killed one mid day. I've killed deer on 2 all days sits but they were both about 4:45. 1 deer i know had to bed up where i would have been walking in at so i would have jumped him out had i came in at 1 or 2 in the afternoon but instead he came out the play right at dark and i was already waiting.

I only sit all day a couple times a yr these days and its always Nov. I enjoy staying all day if the action is good and time is right! Ive killed some of my best between 10 and 2 but only in Nov.

I don't mind hunting all day, I just don't want to sit in one spot all day. My ideal situation would be a faux-Western experience where I pack in a few extra items and establish a spot where I can rest/nap, then go hunt as late as I want, chill out and eat lunch, explore for a little while, and then hunt the evening.

Most of my hunting spots nowadays are in thickets, swamps, and fallow fields, which doesn't compare with some of the scenery you guys get to enjoy :)

I do not believe there is a deer walking that could entice me to sit all day. In Sask. I refused to so. Told the guide, when I called, he better comeget me cause I was not going to sit there all day. I can't even sit in my chair at home all day and I refuse to be miserable doing something I do for fun.

I might stay out all day and hunt two or even three different stands and have killed some good deer in the midday. But to go to one place and sit all day, not this coon.

My all day hunts are a.m. tree Midday a comfortable chair for a snack and a cat nap then back in the tree. In the tree all day gotta move to much . No telling what I'm spooking by moving around.

I usually do them about once a year!! Naw it all depends on the weather and rut!! Last Saturday hunted all day saw 15 that morning and nothing that afternoon! But what makes it worth while last year I hunted all day swapped stands about 1130 or 12 hit the horns a few times and the biggest buck I've ever seen Came a running!
