First day hunting at the farm and used the new trail I hacked up the side of the mountain to come in behind the fields.
Got to the top and saw 3 mature bucks right in front of my stand, but the winds were weird tonight and they were downwind of it (and more interested in sparring), so dropped back into the woods and move to stand 2 around the dogleg of the field.
Climbed in and rechecked the wind and found it blowing out into the field, exactly 180 degrees from normal. Too late, two deer scented me (doe and spike) at 50yds. Doe snorted and ran but spike was curious and finally wandered off. Then 3 more deer came out, winded me and snorted and took off.
I knew I was done and climbed down and headed out.
Question:
The bucks never actually scented or saw me, and were about 100-150yds away, out of line of sight of the other deer. I am sure they heard the other deer run and snort.
Am I busted on these stands for the mature bucks?
