I have a cannon outdoorsman gun safe that measures 60x30x22
And I am going to get a dehumidifying system.

I was going to get a plug in type but I can't find a way to get the cord out.

Does anyone use the silica gel type?

Are there any other types that don't need to plug in??

Are you absolutely sure there isn't a port in the back for the cord to run thru?

Nope. I have a puke of stuff on top of the safe. I'll pull it out and check again.

I found the hole but it is very small I hope the plug-in top will go through it. I also found rust under my safe it wasn't there when I installed it at its new location. I guess I will be using an external dehumidifier as well

Buy a golden rod. You don't have to add the plug until you pull the cord through the hole.

I could run a golden rod cord through the bolt holes on my safe but decided to try the silica gel system first. I've had it for a little over a year. I usually have to plug it in every two months to dry it out. It has worked great.

If you're using the GoldenRod style dehumidifier, you can take the wires off the body of the unit, insert the wires thru the hole, then re-attach the wires back to the rod.

I'd recommend getting one of those cheap weather monitors for 6 or 7 dollars that records the 24-hr high and low temp and humidity. That way, you can be sure that your humidity abatement methods are actually doing something. My safe sits in my garage, and it stays about 80° and 55% humidity in the summer. I use a golden rod and a rechargeable desiccant dehumidifier.

Is your safe inside or outside in the garage. If inside, it is not that big of a deal as your AC system will act as somewhat of a dehumidifier during the warmer, humid months. I keep a little silica dehu in mine but do not change it out regularly and have never had an issue with rust or even minor oxidation.

I keep a little silica dehu in mine but do not change it out regularly and have never had an issue with rust or even minor oxidation.

It's indoors in a finished basement. I am going to run a dehumidifier in the room to see how much moisture it pulls out before I go any further.

All I've used for something like 25 years is one of the plug in heat rods (don't recall the brand) and it has kept my guns rust free. The safe is in a garage too. My safe had a small hole for the cord. To be honest I don't remember if I had to remove the cord or not to install the cord through the hole.

Another item I really like is the Remington Dehumidifier "rechargeable" packs. When they get "wet", just plug them in to dry out and re-use again and again. I have a couple in my safe as well as a rod. It's in the garage btw, so I ain't takin' no chances.
