Deer vs Cattle

I've read several different opinions on whether cattle moving in on deer territory is a bad thing. Personally, I never see deer when cattle are present, but I know others have seen the 2 side by side with no problems. Today's experience was really eye-opening for me:

I hunt a 225 acre farm in Wilson Co. I was watching a young 8 pt check his scrapes and make his rounds when I heard a young bull (cow) enter the field about 500 yards away from me. The bull casually walked across the field until he saw the 8 pt, then went full on charge and chased the buck for a good 200 yards until the buck finally took off through the trees.

So...when the cattle move in on your spot, what do you do?

If the cows are on my part of the property, I might as well walk back to the house.
I never see deer with cows around

Never liked to hunt around cattle but that don't mean I won't . Deer will avoid them is my experience .

I hunt a cattle farm, deer hate them. I always hunt as far away from them as I can or in the woods where they can't get to.

I've never hunted around cattle, but I know my horses are VERY territorial when they're in the pasture. I've seen them run off many deer before. I wouldn't be surprised if cattle are the same way.

Ive hunted a lot of farms with cattle and while the occasional deer will feed with them its not the norm imo. Most times the deer will simply avoid them and go about their business.

This has been my experience as well. If cattle come into a place I am hunting I will wait and see what happens. A lot of times they are just passing through. I let them pass and continue hunting. Deer don't seem to mind that the cattle were just there. They don't want to mingle with them while they are there though.

if its the only spot you have, then hunt it.. But.. cattle eat the same green browse as deer. I hunted a place one time and the owner let cattle out on it and within two months the cows had about eaten all the browse, so the deer left.

Deer don't care for cattle in the immediate vicinity, but they don't avoid them altogether. However, the cattle will decimate the browse the deer need to feed on, especially in a drought year such as now.
