Do deer tags work like small game and birds in that if my father still has a tag left and where hunting together can I shoot a deer and him check it in as long as we don't shoot over out combined limit of 4? and by together I mean opposite ends of the farm but at the same time

Technically you can't, but it's commonly accepted practice when duck hunting, etc. For deer, or turkeys, or anything else, you absolutely cannot.

True. I've heard that game wardens will frequently ask duck hunters to claim individual ducks. "Fellas, who shot what?" Individual bag limits apply.

Yep. If you hunt reelfoot lake then you have to be carrying your own ducks out on your own carrier.

There is no party hunting for ANY species in TN.

oh ok cool guys, thanks for clearing that up. I was always told with something like fish and ducks/dove that it didn't matter who killed the birds or caught the fish as long as you didn't go over your combined limit. Obviously both people have to be actively fishing or hunting in this situation for it to work, one person cant just be there standing around so the other can get a double limit

Wasn't sure about deer since you weren't hunting together side by side.

If 5 guys come up on a group of 20 green wing teal, there is no way in hell anybody can tell anybody who killed each duck. You can put them in separate piles if you want to, but that doesnt change who killed them. I guess if a GW wanted to be a prick he could ask who killed each one, but I've hunted with multiple GWs, including on reelfoot lake, and nobody has ever mentioned it.

It is impossible to avoid some degree of "party hunting" when multiple people are shooting from the same blind into the same groups of ducks trying to reach their limit. Which is why it is commonly done and widely accepted (in West TN anyway). Duck hunting is unique in that respect. That is my only point.

My one and only public dove hunt some 30 years ago almost lands me with a ticket .

Came out of the field with carrying the birds of both mine and my buddies while he carried some of the rest of the gear . GW stops us to checks plugs and then wants to count birds. I think nothing of it because I knew we were well under our combined limit. He goes berserk on me telling me I'm over limit . We explain these are both our birds . He's firm but understanding and gives Us about 30 seconds to divide the birds up . My buddy had no place to put them so he had to make two trips all in the name of a regulation, I guess it was what it was, just happy I was not ticketed .

There are no "party limits" in fishing as well.

The point that you are missing is that if everybody in the blind has 4 bird and one guy has 5, that one guy should not and cannot legally kill more than 1 more. If he pulls up on a group of ducks and connects with his first shot, he should bench his gun and unload. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, just providing an example of how to legally do it.

And the point that I am making is, in reality, if 5 guys have 17 ducks, nobody really knows who killed which ones so there is no way to say who has 5 and who has 4. I understand the technical side of it, and I agree with what you said. But in real life, its not possible to distinguish who killed which ducks unless you take turns shooting. So groups hunt until the blind has a limit (right or wrong, it's common practice).
