Deer Population Your Community!

Just wondering about the doe population in your community,There are way to many does in my community.Me,a neighbor and FedX man that I've talked to have hit deer recently.I live only a mile from church I go to and hardly ever fail having to stop or slow down for deer in the road.Nn one wants to shoot a doe here hardly.How is your neighborhood doe population?

At our home place we have a pretty healthy deer herd period. We kill 8 to 15 a year. Hickman county was the same ehd decided it was to much and kill most of the herd.

I feel like our popular is doing pretty well in Polk county. See deer almost daily and have to slow down several times a week to avoid hitting one.

Ive not shot a doe in sevier co. in years. I hardly ever see them. From what I've kept up with the last couple years I see 6 bucks to 1 doe. I see the same 5 does around my place every couple days.

I normally have plenty of does on my little place, this year I did not see any, just bucks, but I didn't get one. Many around me were the same, thinking EHD did us dirty.

TWRA needs to put a 5 year moratorium on does or a earn a buck program in zones 4,5,and 6. The herd needs some help to raise deer densities. A 1 buck limit per season would help as well.

i live in Kingsport, and see deer regularly crossing 11-W here. my wife was getting ready for work the other morning around 5:30 and had 4 walk by her out on driveway. had deera nd turkeys in back yard a while back. i'm barely off of the 4 lane here, can see traffic

We have a fairly significant deer density in my Nashville suburb. See deer regularly and there are plants I can't grow in my yard because deer eat them all.

At my hunting property, we're at the highest population I've ever recorded since the deer census process was developed (1999).

This is our soon to be back yard where we are building the new house. I believe I counted 14.

Numbers/density here is not what it should be, and nowhere near carrying capacity. Used to have a lot more does, we quit killing them when others on neighboring farms were over killing them.

Never really ever had a lot of deer here but seems to slowly improving. Don't hardly ever kill does . Certain places have more than carrying capacity but over all not a great county for large densities .

What would help more than anything is habitat improvement! Mature hardwoods and/or pines cannot support a high deer density.

Agreed. Eastern Tennessee WMA's definitely need habitat improvement! Some select cutting to open up the canopy and provide more browse along with some more and better food plots to provide a higher nutritional value would go a long way! Not sure if TWRA has the money.

Lincoln line. Thick hillsides with crops in all the bottoms. Hunting pressure pretty low and the hunters are very selective. Have to work hard to put a dent in the doe population

That's very interesting. In southwest Humphreys, still quite high. But we were NOT hit as hard by EHD as your area, and our hunter density has dropped DRAMATICALLY in the last decade or so.

its stupid high in Wilson county. I see 10-25 does in one group MOST mornings right next to my house where a guy feeds them some and a HUGE red oak rains acorns down on the road. And thats just one little spot. See tons of does most days taking my girls to school. Most of that is you semi suburban

Deer are very high where I live now. Never used to even see deer. I remember the first time I saw one on the property. It was immediately after we converted it from a cattle farm and did a tremendous amount of habitat work for multiple species. Very few hunt now. Lot of illegal hunting still taking place and that's pretty much what killed it for me and the neighbors. Constant and ruthless unchecked crime by hunters. No respect for anyone or anything, just all about themselves, their technology and their kills.

Holston Defense (BAE now) once asked them the best thing to plant for the deer. TWRA told them don't plant anything, fertilize all the honeysuckle on the fences etc. deer eat the hell out of it (kudzu too), and if it's fertilized, it's even better nutrient-wise for them.

I would agree. In my area of Clay county we are covered in does, but we also shoot them. It seems the more does we shoot the better the bucks tend to be and we've been doing this for 8 years.

Plenty here in Northeast Roane county. Never been a shortage since we moved here 4 years ago
