I hate this bait bill, but what's the reasoning for mandating that bait piles are strictly deer only? How do you keep hogs out of them? Shoot every hog that approaches? Or are hunters supposed to sit and watch whole Sounders eat and grow on their corn piles? Regardless get ready for the hog population to explode with all this extra food available.

Why didn't I think of that...?

I should have learned after the deer were so gracious as to cross the roads exactly where we placed the deer crossing signs...
They really should be considerate enough to put those signs in places it is actually safe for a deer to cross the road. I have nearly hit several that were crossing near those signs.

Pig Brig is definitely going to have an increase in business in TN.
Only way I could control them on a lease in South AL. Luckily I don't have them yet on my property in middle AL yet.
I have 2 Pig Brigs though for when the first sight of them shows up.

Will just be a matter of time till they are here unless something major isn't done quickly.

i haven't read what the baiting bill is for but I would assume they say deer only so you don't bait bears which would be nearly impossible to do where I live. I would be more open to baiting of bear than deer. They are a nuisance where I am at.

And turkeys. I'd guess the mandate applies not to what eats the bait so much as what gets shot over bait.

I don't know what species are currently legal to bait for hunting but the two proposed bills apply to deer only

No other species

I don't think you can bait coyotes in TN

And racoons, which means fewer turkey eggs getting to hatch. This whole thing is incredibly stupid.

Your land, private land, you want to screw it up then knock yourself out. Government agencies have no business telling you what to do on your own land…..as long as you are not harming another or an adjoining property. That said, this bill is about money as always, they can't stop baiting so guess they need to charge for it to generate revenue. All the "Crossbow Carls" will be sitting over a corn pile for the velvet hunt….. got to have that bookface picture holding a velvet buck. 🙄
TWRA has lost its way!!! 🤬

You just put up a sign that says "deer only" duh…
Like this?

TWRA had nothing to do with this. All legislature on this one

You leave Carls out of this.

Shew, glad they ammended it to not include feeding swine bait. Its only for deer....good....hope they put some verbiage in there that prevents poults from eating the big buck walmart corn. Pardon the sarcasm....its just all a bit ridiculous.

And I understand its about what you can shoot over bait, not what animals can eat it....So pigs can eat your bait pile but you cant hunt pigs over a bait pile? You cant hunt coons over a bait pile but you can feed them and prop their populations....when looking at whats best for wildlife, it all just makes no sense.

We left the "what's best for wildlife" regulations long ago. Sadly...

I no longer have an "in" with the TWRA (I used to be friends with active agency biologists; all of those friends have retired), so I don't know what is being discussed within the agency. But I STRONGLY suspect many of the regulation changes - including legalizing baiting - are NOT coming from within the biological staff.

And for those who are gonna say, "But Kentucky has good deer and turkey hunting!" - Yes, they do. And I wonder how much better it would be without baiting?

I don't think Kentucky has good hunting *because* of baiting, I think Kentucky has good hunting *despite* baiting.
