Monday afternoon / evening coming home from work a little bit after 5:00 on Hwy 100 a few miles east of Centerville, I saw a pretty decent 8-point (about 95-100") standing just off the road on the shoulder. I slowed down, anticipating that he was going to either run off into the woods or cross the road. He crossed (or tried to cross) the road, but unfortunately the van coming the other direction did not see him. It looked like the whole front of the van exploded (grill, headlights) as it center punched the buck, but surprisingly it did not splatter him. Of course the buck was dead but it just catapulted him about 30' up the road into the ditch, and it didn't even bust up his rack at all. The van driver was a little shaken up but not hurt, luckily.
They are on the move out there - be careful! I just put in a new pair of high beam headlamp bulbs on my daily driver to throw a bit more light, as I am commuting my 75 miles each way to work during "prime time" in both the morning and evening.
