Deer movement

I saw a lot of hunters. Saw more people today on my lease than I have in 2 yrs. Hopefully some of them will give it up. They were still coming in at 8 this morning.

Definitely slow. Was ultra-hot Nov. 1st through the 3rd, and then again the 7th. However, it has slowed dramatically since then.

In the three years I've been hunting this place, I can't ever remember even seeing a deer on a warm, windy day. Yet here I sit hoping for a hot doe and some boneheads following her.

I hear ya AndyW. I just got in the stand overlooking a clover plot. Been here 10 minutes though and my two best buddies, two yearling buttons just walked out. I have seen them the last four days in a row. Hoping their mama will show with a big buck in tow!

I have to drive down a long wheat field to get to where I walk into my stand. I turn the corner on to the field and see a deer in the middle of the field staring at me. I ease the Atv to a stop get my muzzy up scope on deer. Its a spike. Crazy thing starts running to me like a dog. It has this Im so happy to see you trot to it. Gets about 40 yards away and just stands there looking at me. I got so tickled i just put my gun down and took off on towards my stand. Little fella trotted into the woods.

I went this AM and saw nothing. on the 9th i had small bucks running does and small bucks trailing them. I took off Wed and Thurs. thinking it would be on fire saw all small bucks no chasing, no does, except one right at dark Wed.

The bucks were cruising with their nose to the grounds and that fast walk/trot, but i have not seen a big deer yet, despite having pictures, and this weather seems to have slowed them up.

I feel like i made a bad choice taking the two days off last week and should have taken time this week.

Three days ago 3 of us saw in excess of 40 deer. The next day 2 of us hunting the same area saw 1 deer. I didn't go today and won't again until next week . The warmer weather and high winds just don't make for deer movement this time of year. Predictions are fairly warm for rifle opening day around here...in the 50's. I hope they miss it. One and at the most 2 more muzzleloader trips and then I get to break out the real guns for the real season, lol.

Took my brother with me this morning to property I got permission to hunt this year. Put him in a stand that I'd been seeing deer on regularly, and sure enough he seen deer.............after they woke him up running by him. lol
He said it was a small 6 or 7 point chasing a doe hard.

I also had a young buck trailing a doe this morning, he looked like a 2 1/2 year old going by body size, couldn't see his horns very well as they skirted up a hill behind me.

This all took place in southern Lawrence county not to far from the Alabama state line.

I went out Wednesday morning in Maury co. I saw 25. saw small bucks chasing but it was the coldest morning of the year so far I think it was around 27 degrees. Seen fresh rubs and scrapes that had to be made Tuesday night. I think they are still a few days out before doe's get hot.

I saw a buck crossing a field at about 600 yards this morning at 6:35 with his head to the ground trotting and walking stiff legged. Also had a young doe come right by me at 15 yards. Raised my ML but decided to not shoot. If she had been another year older, I would have done it without hesitation. Due to the wind and warm temps, I didn't even go this afternoon but did see one doe crossing the field behind my shop about 4:30. Rotten wind and heat........ :(
