deer # ?, more power to those that count kills

I don't know and don't pay attention to how many deer I kill anymore, I have to go to kill tags to know and have really stopped counting like I used to.

I do believe I was the first to "count 'em" on this website and I caught absolute heck for killing the number of does I did that year (I only shoot momma does and do my best to not shoot a doe unless it is a mature one and prefer them to be a momma with a young buck). I sure donated a pile of meat to the HFTH those seasons. Crazy thing is this past season was far from my best year as far as numbers of deer seen go. I was called names, attacked, made fun of, even some people I personally knew were hiding behind screen names and attacking me. Heck I was treated about like the news media is treating Trump, if not worse.

It is amazing to me though, that with a 3 doe a day limit in Unit L, we still have a private land only antlerless only hunt.

This past season has been somewhat slower than normal for me, but I could have easily killed 40+ deer in does (only mature does, no young or small deer) alone in Tennessee and that only includes deer in easy range whether with gun, bow or muzzleloader. I did see and pass more bucks than I have in several seasons, I guess that is the bad thing about chasing a couple of really good ones, never got a chance at them though.

Maybe next season I will donate a pile of meat to the HTFH program again, if I feel like it.

Same here, if i wanted to kill numbers i could of killed just as many as a lot of other people in the 25 plus range...i just kill what i can eat and i always give some away to friends who do stuff for me...but i have no problem if a person wants to kill numbers...

About 1 deer on average habitat...

Doesn't mean only 1 deer will use the 7.5ac.... may be dozens that are fed and kept alive on other properties that cross the 7.5ac....

I don't care so much about the number I kill. I'm more concerned with how many I see and how often. The OP said he could have killed 40+ this season. I won't see 40+ in 3+ years hunting. I had a stretch of nearly 50 hours on stand without a sighting. Until yesterday evening I hadn't seen a deer in early a month, but I didn't hunt nearly as hard as did from the start of bow thru the end of November. Those that truly see big numbers don't know how nice it compared to other areas.

This is so true. I joined a new lease and only saw one buck that didn't meet the QDM requirements. I had people tell me I should have shot it because no one else would ever know. But I would and that is what matters.

It really depends on how many you need to kill for the property for me,
I've got a friend with him brother they killed 40 does this year. But as he
said to me on Friday they needed to killed 80 on that tract.

Lucky I have a farmer that needs several every year and if the weather is
right I don't even have to field dress them if their js shot and he's on the way
home and one of the farm trucks is always there. I just pull in drop tailgates and slide
to the other truck.

The "Deer number xx" posts rub me the wrong way. I don't know if it's where I've had to deal with more numbers hunters this year on the place I hunt or what.

Congratulations, you killed 10-15-20 deer this year. Do you want a trophy that says "greatest hunter of 2016" on it?
Maybe I just don't understand it because I'm one of the trophy hunters that seem to be so thoroughly hated on this site

I guess I'm just too new to all of this to care much. I'm just as happy for the guys who choose to only shoot 1 or 2 trophy bucks and call it a season as I am for the guys who are shooting multiple deer of various size.

From what I've seen most of the posters here that shoot multiple deer do so in multiple locations and do good with the meat.

I'd feel different if deer were just being killed and left or maybe someone was just killing everything under the sun on our property with no regard to management, but don't see either of those as a problem. I think it's just the trap of the Internet, differing theories and no way to interpret what's being said or what a person is really thinking other than what can be typed out. Leads to too much strife IMO.

It is not a big deal at all.

Where I hunt in TN you can kill 3 does a day so there is no need to worry about counting overall numbers. You can only kill 2 bucks per year, killed one nice buck this year, and that for sure is not hard to keep up with.

Where I hunt in KY, there is no limit on does, the limit is ... unlimited for does, and the limit for antlered deer, any exposed antler is 1 buck per season, period. My brother and myself killed 2 great bucks on the same day out of the same tree in the 2016 season, killed mine that morning and he killed his that evening. Last year we did the same thing, except I killed mine one morning and he killed his the next day in the evening out of that same tree. Overall count each season is for sure not an issue. I just don't have or see a need to count overall totals each year anymore and haven't for a while. I have tried to come up with my lifetime total a couple times recently, I have well over 300 kill tags, but I have lost or misplaced several and all I have of Kentucky kills are the confirmation numbers, many of those lost from assisting in culling does, momma does only on those hunts and I have killed a pile of deer on those hunts.

I did hunt AEDC on the second gun hunt this year and saw piles of deer and killed 2 deer. I know the game warden who was so gracious to drive in and help me to get the 2 deer I killed at AEDC, he did take a second look when he checked those deer in at the truck on his laptop, and he said "you kill a bunch of deer". That was the first I knew that all of your kills back for a few years show up when you check in online. I kind of thought that was cool.

I passed an easy 120's class, might would have hit 130" on Priest right at the end of the season. Kind of wish I had shot him, but I am pretty sure he made it, so maybe next season he will walk by and be a little better. I hope anyways, but that crap never really happens to me. Generally in my lifetime of hunting, if I see a great buck, I get to see him one time, I don't care if it is from the stand, walking in, driving down the road, etc. It is very rare I get multiple chances to even see the same buck much less kill it if it is one I want to kill. Small bucks I don't want or even a nicer buck that for whatever reason I don't want to kill, will camp out where I hunt. Weird how that always happens.
