Deer eye color ?

We got home from our church cantada (sp?) tonight and man went to town before coming home.

He just came in and said he rounded the corner and there were several deer in the field by the house and his headlights hit them as he turned.

He said all of them had green colored eyes when the lights hit them but one of them had more reddish color?

I told him it was probably just the angle that the light hit that one deer but didn't know for sure.

Is there something that would make their eyes show up a different color?

I'd venture to say that the red may not have been a dear. As I understand it, the tapetum is a major difference between predator's and prey's eyes. Red (like humans, dogs, alligators) is typically the color of predators' eyes, and green is the color of the eyes of prey.

Just a theory from observation.

Could be light pigments in the eye. My son has it and his eyes look red when any light hits them.

Agree. Most likely a coyote..deer and coyote won't bother each other especially if it is just one coyote.

Bucks have red eyes, does have green. It has to do with inherent jealosy and rage/desire. I thawt everybuddy new dat.

Agree with bowriter, if seen side by side, bucks eyes are a diff color in the light. Although I always thought it was more of a orange color
