What is the best way to call a buck in during this portion of early rut? over the last week seen small bucks fighting. Ive only called 2 deer in to me in the thirty years that i have hunted?
 
If you can see the deer I think he snort wheeze works the best right now, after you've had no response from a grunt.
 
IMO Right now, a few doe bleats, wait 4 to 5 min if nothing shows a few young buck grunts, then some light rattling. Best if your in thick stuff 20 to 30 yards in, with your back to an open field and the wind in your face. When your done rattling be still as possible. He will try to get down wind, but wont go into the open field. Might take a deer 30 min or more to get to you.

If there is a mature buck in there he is going to think 2 young bucks are there trying to get his doe. He will come in to run them off.
 
a few bleats and grunts every 30-45 minutes.....nothing crazy.

In my area, does are plentiful enough that bucks don't have to fight over them, so a conflict may turn a buck away instead of bring him in....imo.

Just a little sound to get one's attention.

If I was to do any calling now....I never really had any luck with a doe call UNTIL the rut initially starts. Then I've seen some great responses. Now I only use a grunter but without the volume and intensity that will come later. Light rattling followed by heavier rattling with a lot of watching. I've already found a couple of places where bucks have gone at it and seen several broken racked bucks already.
 
My setup is going to watching an open hayfield that was cut over a month ago. to my back is a swamp and on the other side of the field it is a bamboo reed thicket that has a creek running into Holston river. I cant move around it is a draw hunt through my hunting club. the neighbors land consist of many acres of standing corn and this is the travel route between food and bedding. ill be sitting in a preset ground blind that has only been hunted 2 times this season.
 
Rattle your arse off, get so aggressive you think there isn't a chance you'll see anything, you might not see anything but I can confirm by many many many times that it works, every large buck I've ever shot came to the horns......and it's exciting
