Does anybody ever try keeping a varmint caller with them while deer hunting? I don't mean serious varmint calling which might spook a deer but just a few squeaks every 30 minutes or so to draw in any coyotes that might be nearby. I can see where this might be a negative for older bucks, but since they are such a tiny minority around my place, I figure the odds are I could hunt for years and never "squeak" a varmint call when an older (4+yrs old) buck is around.

My reason for asking is that this seems to be the most practical way to kill the most coyotes without becoming a serious varmint hunter. And to be honest, when deer season is over, I'm about burned out with getting up in the middle of the night and going through the washing in scent free soap routine. I kill a few coytes every now and then when deer hunting and see a few others trot by out of range or they dissappear too soon to get a shot. I figure that if I had a call already set up, I could take them and give the deer and small animals in the area a bit of relief.

I don't carry a call but I was bowhunting last year next to a cattle pasture and looked and saw 2 yotes out in the field. Squeaked my mouth on the palm of my hand and they came in running to about 10 yd before spooking and running away

Don't carry a call with me but have squeeked them in by mouth and killed them during bow season. Actually did it two evenings in a row a few years ago

I don't recall if I've ever tried using my mouth to squeak on in or not. Most that I've killed have been way out in fields and wouldn't have heard me or they were close enough and moving fast enough that there wasn't time to do anything but shoot right now.
