I have hunted over just the cheap decoys all my life. Now that hasn't been much because i just got into turkey hunting big time last year. But over the past 13 or 14 yrs I have went off and on every season. Last year i hunted over the Avian X decoys that my buddy has and they are some awesome looking decoys. But do you think it makes a big difference between the 2 flambeau hen decoys I have over the Avians? I am considering the combo Jake/hen decoys for $160 and possibly buying another hen for $60. Just having a hard time trying to justify spending that much though lol.

This is solely an opinion on the matter but having hunted West TN field turkeys a good bit I can tell you that from my personal experience the decoy and how it looks isn't going to make a difference on whether or not the turkey is gonna come in to them. They either will come to a decoy or they won't come to a decoy, it's just how they feel that particular day of the week as to what the outcome will be. Paint your foam decoys if you want them to look more "realistic" and save yourself a lot of money and save some energy while hunting by not having to lug around 5-7lbs more than you would now if you were carrying the Avian X decoys. Try hunting without a decoy and see how you do...a lot of the times field birds will hang up if you use decoys because they can see them whereas if you're just calling and they can't see the hen they're more likely to come search, moving them into range.

Typically when I use dekes I'll use a strutter and a feeding hen. I have used the Moto motion thingie that bobs the hen's head up and down to resemble feeding and had fair results with it but after a while the plastic gears start to strip and it can begin making a clicking sound. I think that motion adds some realism to the set up.

My answer will be biased, I don't like using decoys. I will say the avian X look very nice, and the DSD even better. But I would personally never spend that much on a decoy.
