decoy options

Has anyone had any good experiences with decoys? I have one and never used it. It's a boss buck..
Or any terrible experiences? Most places I hunt are somewhat tight quarters, even fields are mostly only about 100 yrds long..

I wouldn't think they would work too well outside of the rut, but there is only one way to find out.....

They work good. Ive had bucks come to them. If a buck is moving he will always stop and look at a doe decoy. Ive actually made them out of cardboard and nailed them to a wooden stake drove in the ground and had deer stop and some come toward it. Gives you that extra several seconds to make a good shot.

I use mine every season during the rut and always have several bucks come to it. Have only had one come to it that I would have shot (I am picky about what I shoot) but he snuck in on me from behind and caught me off gaurd.

I've been thinking about getting one of the Flambeau grazing doe decoys, but I'm torn - part of me thinks it will possibly draw out a buck into my corn field for a shot, but part of me thinks it would do more harm than good.

If I do get one though, I have made up my mind that it will be in the grazing position as opposed to an alert position.

I've had more luck with my deke set up as a buck than as a doe even during the rut. A buck is curious about another buck prior to that and jealous as the rut gets under way. 95% of the time my deke spooks other does but not the bucks.

Interesting.. I think I may try mine this yr.. There have been a voile time I could not get a shot or get the bucks attention, for a shot. This might have worked.. Do u add any sent it just keep it as scent free as possible.. I think I may store mine in a bag and when I kill a deer, give it a hair cut in diff areas and put that in bag..

I have used an estrous scent as a doe deke during the rut but generally I just use a scent away spray to keep all scent down.

I use a Montana buck decoy and have had decent success. I like to watch the reactions when they see it. I had a forky stop dead in his tracks while chasing a for and stare for a few minutes licking his nose over and over to get a scent. The does head for the hills each time they see it though. Never had a bruise come in to check it out though but that can change this year hopefully.
