Ever since I seen the ruger precision rifle in 6.5 creedmoor I have been drooling. I have been wanting to get away from the 22 cal stuff (223, 22-250) and go a little bigger. I have been very interested in the 6mm and 6.5mm bullets. I currently have a remington 700 22-250 on a choate stock, timney trigger and zeiss scope that I am either gonna sell and purchase the ruger or I am gonna re barrel it to a 6.5x47 lapua. I want to be able to shoot 600 yd comfortably with and out to 1000yd with the right conditions.


Soooooo...... should I stay factory? Or should I go wildcat? What are some of your favorite 6mm ish cartridges.

I know a guy that had one of those built. He was shooting some great groups at 850yds I've been thinking about that one too but there's just something about that 6.5x47 that I like.

I've never had much dealing with the 6.5 x 47 but it seems you get a lot more efficient use of your powder. I know mr big did a lot of shooting with one but has been on a 6 mm kick here of late. I'm sure he will chime in shortly.
 
I've been on the 30 cal kick and I'm ready to calm it down a bit. Don't get me wrong. I love my 300wm and my 338 but it's just a little much.

I'm with you. Used to hunt almost exclusively with .30 cal (anything from .30/06 to .300 weatherby) but lately have been super impressed with the 6.5s. Like my 6.5 swede but love the 6.5-284. Debated on getting a .264 mag.

if you are gonna build a rifle that is like the RPR on a Rem 700 and be a repeater I would probably go with the 6XC,,if doing a single shot the 6 Dasher will be hard to beat,

I really like my 6.5x47 also but I believe the most accurate bullets are in 6mm,,

What barrel do you like? If i decide to build it will be my first. I've heard several name brands but I know nothing about them as far as quality, accuracy and what all the big boys shoot.

Looks a bit heavy.
May I ask a few questions.
What is the weight and do you hunt with that?
I'm just curious cause I would love a long range rifle like that but cost, weight and a few other things come to mind.
I would mostly use mine for hunting.

It is a McMillan stock

It is heavy, And built that way on purpose. I do not hunt with it, I mostly use it to burn up the money in my wallet!

That is 5 shots at 1k, 123 Lapua Scenars over 37.5 gr varget. Sometimes the blind pig finds an acorn. Lol

I have Krieger,Bartlien and Brux bbls ,,I honestly cant say one is better than the other but the Brux maybe has been a little more accurate,,I think who chambers it may have more bearing on how it shoots that who made it,,

I will say the Brux 6BR-DX is the only one I have had that I took off to save in its prime in case I get to go shoot a match this spring/summer..

my 6.5x47L is a Rem 700 with Bartlien 5R bbl in AICS 1.5 with 8-32 SIII that shoots the 123 Scenar well also but I like the 130 VLD and 41 H4350 better,,

it weighs just over 17 lbs

last time I shot it at 1,000 had 5 just bigger than my hand,,
