Decided to change directons with MZ

I started with a sidelock and progressed to an inline. But after much thought along with reading posts on here; I have decided to go in the opposite direction and buy a flintlock. I just feel the urge to kill a deer with a flintlock.

Wish me luck, I will probably need it. :blush:

personally i speak for nothing will top my 2 recurve kills

D.A. It is nothing to kill a deer with a recurve! I have done it numerous times.. 37 years ago there was no compounds and fancy crap there is today..I killed one four years ago with a bow a very good friend of mine made out of Osage. He also made the arrows complete with turkey feather veining.. And i honestly don't feel there is anything special about it..

Now i do feel there is something special about killing one with a Flintlock! You never know for sure if it is going to fire for one thing..Dampness of powder could cause a hang fire..there are just so many different variables with a Flint..When i first killed my first deer with it 30 some odd years ago it was the biggest thrill i had ever experienced and to this day i still get the same feeling.. I can honestly say that if i had to have continued hunting with a modern gun i would have gave up hunting by now.. for me it is was no fun to go out put the cross hairs on it..pull the trigger and drag it home.. A monkey with a third of a brain could do that..But when i went to the Flintlock it put fun back into hunting again!! Gramps.. i wish you all the best with the Flintlock!! Hope you enjoy it as much as i have....

I've thought about it, it's gotta be easier then taking one with a bow. I've never fired a flintlock, but I hear there can be some delay after the trigger is pulled. That would be tough to deal with. :) Good Luck!

That is funny.. With the bow every time you pull that string back you know that bow is going to shoot a arrow..You may not know where that arrow is heading but it is going to fire that arrow!!.. you don't know that with a Flintlock.. To many variables involved i.e. moistness of the air.. sharpness of Flint..etc. I have had very respectable deer in my sights and could not get gun to go off.. and it never fails that they will stand there and let the flint slap the frizzen a few times before walking off and then the next time you go to shoot it goes off. I have my Flintlock tuned just right and honestly when you pull the trigger it goes of as fast as a modern gun..I use nothing but German flints and my Frizzen is a tool die steel.. very hard.. sparks will dance at your feet..A Flintlock is not much different then any other gun as long as you take the time to get to know it...and to do that takes more time then most want to put in to do it!!

I like the English flints...but as of late I've been using some out of Missouri that throw alot of sparks.

I have a T/C Black Diamond. It is very picky about the bullets I use.

quigleysharps4570, have not gotten to buy a flintlock yet. Had to have eye surgry earlier in the summer and the copay took care of any extra cash I had. Guess I will be selling one of my shotguns so I can buy the flintlock.
