Day time in December! Age?

Got a bunch of night time pics of this guy. Came out at 12:30pm two days ago. We're saying 3.5

Thats a hard one to judge with his body being in forward motion in the pic. Makes his body almost look 4.5 but i guarantee you from another angle you could tell he was 3.5.

I hunt this property also, and if that is a 2.5 year old deer, we are in GREAT shape with our QDM!

However, I also believe he is a 3.5 year old deer.

Left them on the cards and the cams are back out now

If he is 2.5, I am perfectly happy we have been passing on younger deer the past two seasons and it's really shown on our cams that it's paying off.

If you compare his base to his eye on the first pic, it looks like he is 4 -4.5 inches at the base. His main beam contours down pretty fast from his base. I would say he doesn't have the mass to be a 4.5 year old JMO

no a deer in full stride like that looks sleeker and younger, I'm sure he's at least 3.5. I have been hunting a buck that I believe to be 4.5 based on last year and this year's pics. I got a pic of him in a field in full stride from a couple hundred yards away, and people here were saying he was 2.5 or 3.5 tops, but when you look at trail cam pics he is clearly bigger and older. When they are stretched out like that they look younger. Just what I have noticed

I agree with ya 100%.. The most massive deer and highest scoring deer i have on the wall is a 142" 3.5 yr old. I'm pretty sure he would have gained more mass with age but you still can't go off age by the mass of the antlers.

3 mature bucks i had on cam this year had hardly any mass at all. One was a 4.5 8pt, the other was a 5.5 8pt and the other a 5.5 10pt (which i killed). None of them from pics looked to have over 4.5" bases and didn't carry any mass through the main beams.

Some deer have good mass, some don't no matter how old they are.

3.5, the night pic had me second guessing, but since he is turned with high back im going to not let it persuade me. A week left and he will be a shooter for sure and a year smarter.
