Daughter's first deer

So on my daughter's second hunt she put the smack down on a spike! I'm so happy for her. She was very excited! I thought it wasn't going to happen at first because he came through kinda fast and she couldn't get on him and didn't feel comfortable with what shot she did get. So as we are sitting there in the blind she says daddy he is coming back by us! He got with in 50 yards and I stopped him. She hit him perfectly behind the shoulder with the youth 7mm-08 I bought her.
Also the day before this my son had a shot right at dark on a doe and missed. Needless to say he was very dissapointed. Then the day after my daughter kills her first he let's a good 8 point walk 20 yards from our blind and doesn't pull the trigger on him! He sounded as if he were gasping for air when I flipped the safety off for him. I'm not really sure why he didn't shoot the buck. The buck in the Bottom pic is the deer he let get by him. Would have been a great first deer!

Congratulations to her, great memories being made.

My daughter killed her first when she was 11. Then the next year I had her on a number of deer including a couple of 8 pts, but she would never pull the trigger — she'd be shaking all over. She got over it the next year and killed her first buck, and 18 yrs later we are still making memories. So bear with your son.

Congratulations! I have an 11 year old daughter that has killed four deer. On Friday I took her and we had a buck at 50 yards she couldnt find in the scope. Then we had three come through quickly. She did not want to attempt to shoot them. Later we had a four point come through. She had trouble getting on it. When she did she was shaking like a leaf. Said she was freezing and her hands were so cold she could not shoot. All that to say it happens. Hang in there and he will be dropping some in no time.

So it's looking like he's going to be a left handed shooter like my daughter is. So I'll probably end up buying a left handed youth rifle in the spring.

When he brings his cheek to the gun he is using his left eye to look through the scope. He says he can't close his left eye and use his right. So it's looking like he's going to be a left handed shooter like my daughter is. So I'll probably end up buying a left handed youth rifle in the spring.

My son is right handed, left eye dominant. He couldn't close his left eye when he was younger but still wanted to shoot right handed. He has overcome than now and a good shot, but we used a patch for his first few years to cover his left eye.

For this reason, I put a red dot on my son's gun that he hunted with for the first three years. I knew his range would be limited some with the red dot, but he had no trouble finding the deer in the scope. He killed 7 with that set up before being able to use a scope.
