Well I picked up an AK yesterday as some of you know.Thought I got a good deal one it with the 6 mags and 700 rnds of ammo that came with it.Now I know why!I took it out today to see just how accurate these things are and loaded 15 rnds in that magazine and let it rip.First couple of shots was pretty good for open sights and then I pull the trigger again and it shoots a burst of 3 rnds.I stop and think what in the heck just happend?I shoot some more and it does it again only 2 this time.So i stop and flip the saftey up and BOOM!Dang thing goes off.Scared me so bad I had to sit down for a min. What if I hadn't had the gun pointed down range when I put the saftey on,or what if someone was standing there?Scarey thought,it just always pays to handle a gun with care!By this time im out of ammo and load up a few more rounds and start shooting, and for a few rounds its on semi auto and then the next few shots are like it is set on burst or is trying to turn full auto.I called my Smith and he said it sounds like someone has tried to convert it by messing the the trigger and fileing the disconnect off, what ever that is.He told me to hurry and bring it in that he could fix it for about $100,parts and labor. He told me that the parts market for these were drying up real fast.

Wow,

Glad you are alright Cecil, that is one scary feeling. I got invited to hunt with a bunch of guys a good friend of mine knew.

A weekend at their camp. We are all gathered out front of the camp chatting about the days strategies and so on, waiting for the last member to come out. It was the owners girlfriend...........she was late getting up and so on, she rushes out the door stuffing shells in her 30-30 Win. Ratchets one in the chamber and tries to drop the hammer to half cocked with her glove on.....................The next thing I know, my ears are ringing and I have dirt in my face. Her thumb slipped and the hammer dropped on a live round, the bullet hit the ground directly between my feet, richocheted off the dirt and hit a truck parked behind me.

I nearly crapped myself, 2" either way and I would have lost a foot. Probably bled to death, we were 19 miles off the nearest paved road and 90 from the closest hospital.

I always treat every weapon as if it is loaded and dangerous.

PS: I have never hunted with that group again.

Man that's scary, people do some ignorant things to firearms. It's a good thing you got it instead of some know nothing that doesn't shoot much. someone could have been killed. I hope you get it fixed up and it don't cost you much!

Got it back today, and the people who I got it from had just installed the new trigger wrong!Only costed me $35 as opposed to $100 he quoted me earlier. To say the least,Im pleased.

cecil 30-30,
I don't know if you aware of it or not but in our courts you were a class 2 felon by having in your posession a semi-automatic weapon capable of firing more than one round with a single pull of the trigger...I hope that gunsmith gets a Christmas card this year :)

Holy!@#$

I know a guy that has one that shoots full auto.
He leaves it in the back seat of his truck all the time.
Freakes me out just knowing him sometimes.

He brought it to my place a few years ago. I was picking up brass for 2 weeks in my driveway.

I had bought an M-1 carbine from an estate sale, took it to the range stuck in a 15 round clip sat down and eyed the target and went to pull the trigger and it let half the clip go. Yup went right to the smith and he fixed it for me,someone done something to the sear. Ya I cleaned out my pants to,scared me. Glad your ok.
