cwd ?????

Good question. I have another.

If my wife hits a CWD deer and smashes its skull with her can and then drives to middle TN and washes off the brains it in my driveway, can the disease be spread to our farm?
 
This my seem crazy. But I wonder if its something in the supplemental feed that people feed there deer? The only reason I ask that is. How do these deer farms that only have pen raised deer from birth get it? I mean I know they say its in the dirt but deer have feed and lived in TN for years and years and just now we have this 10 or so case of cwd all at once. I know that's off the wall. But its something that I have thought about.

Deer farms were historically importing and exporting deer back and forth across the country.

I think it is about like global warming! Some people believe it, others don't! That is my opinion. The decline in turkey population caused the TWRA to form a study. I think the decrease in trapping has caused it. Coons and possums eat alot of turkey eggs. Also the comeback of the armadillo. You never saw one 20 years ago, now I see them dead everywhere in Stewart, Cheatham, and Montgomery counties. This is just my opinion, but it seems like it is just cyclic, or a change due to a slight change in habitat, caused my agriculture practices, land use changes, etc. 20 years ago you never heard about Ebola, west Nile virus, etc. Call me crazy, but with all the fake news media, you never know!
 
There are many ways that CWD can get from one place to another. A wild deer can touch noses with a deer inside a pen. A coyote can move it for miles through its feces. A transported deer can have it and placed in a pen. A deer carcass can be moved to a new environment and spread the prions. Any management plan is designed to slow down the spread of the disease, but it's insidious and nothing can really stop it. CWD is like rising flood waters, with fawn recruitment as your wall and CWD is the water. Water is gonna go where it wants to go to the path of least resistance. Any management plan only tries to contain the spread allowing the deer herd to grow faster than CWD can kill. The real problem is that flood waters are not receding and if we don't find a way to stop it, we might one day look like Waterworld.
 
I worry about people me killing deer in CWD countries and bringing them back to middle TN to be processed. I hope anyone is smart enough not to do this
 
We all are well aware of cwd. But for those that aren't on tndeer or social media....how much, if any have they heard about cwd?

There has been hunters bringing deer back to middle tn for a couple of years now out of them CWD countys.
