I have been out and about the last week or so. In that time, I have seen more deer in general and more good to really good bucks than I have seen in a while. This is in the zone...all may not necessarily be lost fellas. Of course I'm done deer hunting so, there's that...
 
10-4. I rode/glassed two of those counties yesterday evening and saw some deer, a fair number of deer, but nothing out of the ordinary. Typical deer movement in soybeans last three hours of daylight.

I've seen several in short beans in middle of the day, but most of those sightings were around the 4th. Blazing hot and they are grazing in the beans, simply mind boggling. One thing was constant, none of the beans were over calf high.

Of course all is not lost...nowhere near. I'm as optimistic as I've ever been; CWD isn't the end of the world.
 
I need to get out and set cameras, but my mind just isn't it this year. I feel like this will be a light hunting year for me. I went a ton last year and kinda burnt myself out. Hopefully the sightings stay high and all is not lost.

It's a good question that no one knows. The south has a denser population and a different environment. Who knows if that's bad or good? I think it's presumptive to assume we will be like other places. We are in the middle of the worst area and no doubt have we seen a direct impact from CWD. We still have a huntable population and will try to manage assuming a younger herd as the older deer will be hit the hardest. It's gonna be different for sure. Once we get to a new normal, it won't feel as bad. The wound is still fresh right now. Deer are survivors and I think there will be deer to hunt. Fifty years ago there weren't very many deer. In my opinion, 5-10 years ago was the best it's ever gonna be in West Tennessee. But it will be better than 50 years ago. The good ole days are behind us.

I don't get it either. That's just me though. I think they test the deer out there, if you run them by a check station. If it were me, I'd shoot em and have them tested, maybe donate the meat. JMO though.

Done, pretty much. I should say deer killing. I'll still go to deer camp, hang out with the fellas, go sit in a stand, kill Bullwinkle if he steps out in front of me, kill the required number of does in accordance to the landowner's management plan(anything above that is out)...but I am done with the concept of "I really need X many number of deer in my freezer." And Yes, I am done eating them for sure. If I have an outlet for them I would consider giving them away, but I don't want the expense of testing them or holding on to them until the results come back. I also don't want to be held liable for knowingly giving them a deer from the Zone and them possible contracting a variant.

If your buddy still wanted them, non tested, I would consider giving them to him. I think those willing to chance it may have an filtered line of people giving them away already so I doubt there will be simple, cheap/free methods to dispose of the bodies.

I think I have enough other hobbies to keep me busy besides deer hunting. Will I miss it? Probably a little bit, but not enough to change my mind now.

I've got the same attitude as you, CBU. Of course, I can't eat them anyway due to being allergic. But I'll still be out here in a stand this season.

Yep, got that Alpha-gal thing from a tick bite. 2 years now. Can only eat chicken, turkey, and fish.
