CWD treatment claim?

I have seen a release from Pennsylvania stating that a LSU biologist claims to have discovered that CWD, CJD, Mad cow and scrapie is caused by a bacteria and is treatable / preventable. I have seen this 2X in the last week but nothing else. It seems to me that news this big would be all over the place yet I have seen nothing else on it. Can TWRA verify this report? Is anyone verifying the lab results? Is this statement legit?

I have not looked into it much, but I believe Dr. Bastian's research was first discussed in 2011, so 8+ years ago. I would not expect advancements, such as a viable cure, to pop up overnight. My .02
