I understand that deboning the meat before bringing in it into the state but I'm having trouble finding how or what is acceptable cleaning procedures for the skull plate/antlers/skull for bringing an elk from CO into the state (if i'm lucking to shoot one). I generally do my own processing so i'm looking for the correct DIY process. the link in the state's website will not load up. just wondering if TWRA has any publications on DIY procedures for this. thanks, Eddie

the ladies at the office were helpful. basically all meat and tissues have to be removed from the skull and teeth. as far as we can tell there is no set procedures or guidelines of how it's removed just as long as it's removed.

they did point out I need to check with the states I will be transporting through to make sure i'm covered there.

My advise would be to completely skin out the head and remove the skull plate. Make sure the skull plate is completely clean of tissue and bleach it afterwards.

that's my intent, if i'm lucky, since I wouldn't be able to do a shoulder mount. thanks.
