Cwd and leases/public land

Not trying to make light of the situation.

But if there is any positive for the average income hunters that struggle with leases and competition on public land, this has to be one.

I would not trade the disease though for this. I'd rather have more deer and more hunters than just overall not many deer.

This is what I'm saying, not sure on what outcome will be. Probably irrelevant as of now but who knows.

Well if you believe that look no further than WI, Iowa, etc. All have CWD and lease prices have not gone down, hunting participation has waned slightly, but for the typical reasons, and deer are still there in pretty abundant #'s.

I don't see CWD changing lease prices anytime soon if ever. Hunters want to hunt near where they live and even if they give up a lease inside the zone to one outside the zone, it's probably just temporary. CWD will be on your favorite lease soon enough. We all will have to learn how to live with CWD if we want to hunt. There's no escaping it. A few hunters on the margin will give up hunting all together but new hunters will be replacing them. Eventually, all hunters will be used to the new normal of getting deer tested. Life will go on.

I would assume lots of people will stop eating deer. Just because some of us on this forum say we will. There's lots of hunters that aren't on here. To bad for them lol. I'm still not 100 percent I will eat a positive deer. Participation is going to drop there's no doubt. The hard core hunters won't. But as a whole we need more than just us buying licenses.I mean think about it. The hunters that only hunt a few times a year. Are being told the deer Have a disease that might or might not make you sick. It'll pick up again but how long will that take.

I believe CWD will simply accelerate the already steady decline in the number of deer hunters.

CWD being found in TN will have some other effects as well.
More TN hunters will choose to do more their hunting in states where CWD hasn't yet been documented.
That remains a lot of states, at least going into the 2019 deer season this fall.

Avid TN resident deer hunters looking to either buy or lease land for deer hunting may also start looking more outside of TN.
And certainly, CWD makes TN now a less attractive destination to non-residents for deer hunting, deer leases, or land purchased for deer hunting.

Perhaps many current TN deer hunters will shift over to do more waterfowl and small-game hunting?

Don't see deer lease prices plummeting in TN, but don't see much market there for increasing prices either.

Law of supply and demand.
Is the demand (for deer hunting in TN) dwindling faster than the supply of places to hunt?
Even before the recent TN CWD discovery, many public lands were trending fewer deer hunters than in recent years past.
