CVA optima problems

Went to sight in my MZ and was having problems with the Hammer locking back. If I broke open the barrel it would lock back in place fine. But if I closed the barrel I had to really push hard to get the hammer to lock into place. I tried cleaning it again and it seemed to help some but not like its suppose to do. Any suggestions prior going to a gun smith?

I had this problem once. Make sure you "snap" the barrel shut, don't baby it. If it is new the spring has not worked in yet. I would also recommend calling CVA customer service.

If it is old, the problem could be that the gun does not have a sealed breach and the gasses can easily get back in the action, but cannot be easily cleaned. These guns use a cheap finish that does little to inhibit rust, and if they are not flushed/cleaned out regularly then this could lead to rust/gunk buildup in the action. I experienced this with an older CVA Optima Pro that I used to own, although I didn't have problems with the hammer refusing to stay back. I traded it and got a Savage Smokeless so that I would not have to deal with the corrosion any longer.
