I got some BH209. I wasn't aware that I would need to update the breech plug. I shot it a few times and it's shooting fine. I shot using Remington Kleanbore, no hangfire issues. Would that setup damage the gun?

KleanBore primers are weaker primers made for real BP or other subs, NOT including BH209.

Using them and a OEM CVA breach plug is asking for a FTF or hang fire. Damage,,,,probably not unless you include the buck that walks away when it goes poof instead of BANG.

huuge mistake with the kleanbore primers. They are a cold primer and a misfire IS in the near future.

From what I read I need Federal primers or a shotgun primer. I assume that shotgun primer would be for the upgraded breech plug.

Blackhorn recommends Federal 209A or CCI 209M primers exclusively. That would be with the new BH breech plug.

I know of a few guys using the Euro primers in the CVA BH209 plugs with great results. Primers like Nobel, Cheddite and Fiochii 209s appear to have a good track record also.

Some plugs dont need mag primers at all with BH209. The Omega plug is a good example of an efficient BH209 plug. The OEM CVA plug can be modified to work even better than the Western or CVA branded BH209 plugs. Once modified, a plain old Win209 is super reliable.

Maybe...maybe not. The Federal 209 is probably the hottest primer around.

No, you'd still need a replacement breech plug. Either the one from CVA, or one of the Western Powders plugs sold by Blackhorn. As far as I know, they are both equally reliable, but you can get the CVA cheaper.

If you have the original Accura V1, it doesn't have a quick release breech plug. It's the classic breech plug you have to remove with a socket.

That's what I have and you DO NOT have to get an upgraded breech plug. I shoot Federal 209 primers with no issues.

CVA started having issues when they went to the quick release breech plug. The original breech plug is better for BH209. Get a #32 drill bit to periodically clean out the flash hole...I clean mine about every 5 shots.

FYI the #32 drill bit is to clean the hole that you see when you open the gun. Not the tiny hole that ignites the powder.

Thanks UTGrad. Now to find Federal primers. Bass Pro didn't show them online. One of the downfalls to a small town. All they stock around here is Triple 7.

I ordered a box of 1000 from Cabelas pretty cheap. Won't be needing anymore primers in the foreseeable future.
