Cutting Off the Nuts When Field Dressing

I noticed on the field dressing thread several mentioned cutting off a buck's testicles when gutting the deer. I've always left them intact. What impact does leaving a buck's nut sack have on the meat?

I believe that's mostly due to leaving evidence of sex on the animal.

I thought some folks were saying it was necessary to cut them off. I just didn't see the reason to cut them off.

That's the only way I have seen it done. I haven't tried deer nuts, but I have eaten buffalo balls and they were pretty good.

Its part of the field dressing agenda. We have several deer to skin in a day and people just ignoring them slows us down and 99% of the time if they are still intact so are the pee sack and anal cavity which can harm the 2 biggest sections of meat. Its not that hard to cut off in the field. I can gut a deer cleanly in less than 5 min.

As a child once, my family had dinner one evening at the Derby Restaurant in Ruger's hometown of South Fulton (or maybe it was just "Fulton"). My dad ordered some fried tenderloin. Upon his starting to enjoy it, he commented this was unlike any tenderloin he'd ever been served previously, and why did they cut it up in such little pieces?

The waitress, sensing something might be awry, inquires, "Mr. Parrish, how are those lamb fries?" Thought my dad was going to puke. How the waitress mistook "the tenderloin" for "lamb fries", no one knows.

I use the Butt Hole tool and remove the poop chute

I have the butt hole tool as well. But it's doesn't do the best job imo. Usually if I have one handy, I'll use a filet knife and cut the area out.

can open the cavity for gutting, de-nut and remove the butt hole all out together. used to completely field dress in 30 seconds or less, with my back messed up now it takes 45 seconds to 1 minute

im from the rocky mountain region... Rocky Mountain Oysters are awesome!!! when we castrate the cows we toss them straight into the branding pit then at the end of the day pick them out and cut them open. fried works to. Very experienced for when my daughter is of age lmao ^^^^^^^^^^ Damn that's why im not havin luck this year cause I forgot to sling the nuts in a tree last year LMAO

Yup lol. I was always told as a kid throw them up in a tree if they stick your next deer will be a buck if they hit the ground next will be a doe. My 8yr old killed two bucks last year and one this year. You should have saw the look on his face this year when this sack hit the ground lol He said aww crap now I gotta shoot a doe lmao.
