Custom Box Calls

Looking for recommendations on a custom box call? Lost mine in the field a couple years ago and would like to get another one.. Thanks

Depends on what you want to spend. $125 range: Jeff White, S&S, Twisting Creek (Jeff McKamey). In no particular order. They all make good boxes.

David Halloran makes some nice ones

I've got a couple of Halloran boxes that birds will often holler at when they won't at anything else. One is ebony over poplar and the other purpleheart over cedar. I wouldn't trade the ebony/poplar for anything...I've started calling it the Death Hen.

Marlin Watkins, TJ Johnson, Richard Hudson, Matt Fulkerson, Jeff White, SS Custom Calls, Ernie Fetters

If you decide on a Hudson or Fetters call just know they make Hen Box calls and there is a learning curve but once you get them running they are great. This is my Fulkerson Hen Box.

I am pretty sure it was your box that I lost in the field! I can't remember where or when I met you but I bought one off you something like 10-15 years ago! Anyways I would like another one?

There are lots of good ones out there. I went through the same thing a few years ago and settled on a Halloran. I don't remember the wood but looks and sounds great. However, I never carry it. I'm just not much of a box call guy and really don't carry it because of something extra to carry. I'm more of a mouth call guy. If they don't come in to a mouth call or a couple of pot calls that I carry, then they're not riding with me. Lol.

Looks kinda like the call Mr Paul made for me out of 100 year old popular that I salvaged. Tired and true.

Just get you an old World Champion Lynch box made in Birmingham, Al.
I've tried to retire my old boxes, but the new Lynch stuff isn't worth the money. I think they are using some of the Chinese drywall mixed in with it.

Yeah I have one that's about ten years of and it is a good call. For a mass produced call I have a Primos Hen Box that sounds pretty good also. Got the primos back in 2009.
