With the recent threads on the Stiller and Borden actions, it got me thinking about the Pacific Tool and Guage actions. They also have blueprinted 700 actions in packages with bolt, bolt face, recoil lug, choice of bottom metal, and whatnot.

Does anyone have experience with their proprietary actions or their blueprinted 700s?

The blueprinted packages run about $1100. With all that is included, is there much better of a value to be had elsewhere or by having a smith start with a Walmart take off action?

you can get the Stiller or Borden Rem 700 clone for the same money and it will always be worth about what you paid,,if you buy a Rem you will never get the smith costs back,,that 1100$$ Rem if sold used would bring maybe 450-500 at most,,

the Rem will shoot if done right it just wont retain its costs like the custom action will

As Mr. Big mentioned, a trued 700 will shoot very well. A properly tried 700 action with either a sleeved bolt or Ptg one piece will be the same price as a custom action. The benefit of the custom action is that it will include a pinned lug and the cocking timing will be spot on along with primary extraction.

Plus any additional features like a 20 MOA rail, etc.

If you think you will ever sell the rifle, the custom action route is definitely the way to go. I have a few Remington actions that have been trued and the bolts bushed and they shoot very well, but I know if I sold them, they would never bring back anywhere near what I have in them. I think those few rifles will be kept as hand-me-downs to future children :tu:
