I dug this "horse brush" yesterday in my neighbors yard and according to whatIve found on it, it was used by federal troops mostly during the civil war! This oneis Marked Mary Veals and it was patented in 1856! Things keep getting better and better, Ive found a bunch of silver coins, a 1915ish Dodge brothers front emblem off an early car and a ton of bullets both drops and shots. I really enjoy this metal detecting thing but I really need to find me a plowed field PRONTO!!!

The coins Ive found in 3 months!

"Rock hunting sites"...

...how do you even determine where the good ones are?

You think like an Indian. What was important to them? Water? High ground?

Those are great places to start. Any creek where the high ground is, and plowed. Springs are also great spots, but usually not farmed, so therefore hard to find points.
