How long before I should have my crossbow restrung? I don't shoot it more than a dozen times a year. String looks good.

I wouldn't replace it until it's starting to fray.
If it looks like it's fraying etc.. if it looks new with normal slight wear near nock etc you're fine

Now if it's been sitting for years, like 3+ I'd replace it just because I don't want the risk of a crossbow string snapping etc but that's personal preference

I would have a local archery shop look at it for you. I shoot a lot with both crossbow and compound. I had mine replaced after two years.

I'm not an expert but I have two crossbows, a Barnett shooting about 350 fps and a Ravin shooting over 400. The Barnett strings are about 4 years old and I'm replacing them this year even though they show little wear. The Ravin I replaced this year as they show some wear on the center serving and it's much more powerful when shot. I'd rather not take the chance of things blowing apart, especially on a hunt.
