Cricket keeper

I have the fishing fever bad but it's just too cold to go so yesterday I built me a cricket keeper. I mainly fish here at the house and hate having to go get them every time I want to fish and most of the time I have some left.

Well really I built one because it is much cheaper to buy them by the thousands than a tube or two at a time.

I have since looked around on ebay and other places and there are multiple places that are about the same price but have free shipping.
Gonna try some of them this year as shipping was like $25 from that place.
I will say though, I ordered 1,000 a couple different times and bet there weren't 5 dead crickets when they arrived.

A little off topic but this reminds me of a funny story. I used to drive a package car for UPS in Southern CA and once had a box of crickets break open in the back. Thousands of crickets loose. Crunch crunch, chirp crunch chirp- It was a mess :P

Are the prices they list per 250? The site really is not clear.

Also, where do you guys keep your box? In a shed, out where it stays shaded, someplace else?

Not sure where to keep it yet, think I'm gonna keep it the hall of my barn. Any suggestions from the pros would be appreciated.

Just keep them out of direct sunlight.
Cold will kill them alot faster than hot.

I made mine slightly smaller, about 2' sq.

LOL I already had the latch is why it is so big. :D

What type of hook do yall use? Last time I went I bought 24 crickets and just about every one of them was stolen off the hook.

Tru-Turn Gold Aberdeen Hooks size 6 is all I use.

If they are stealing my crickets, I move locations.
Big bream don't nibble, they slam it.
99% of the hooks I take out of bream is right in the center of the roof of their mouth.
If you will set the hook the fish don't get off either.

I buy them 1,000 at a time and very few die till I stick a hook in 'em.
