Crawfish as bait?

I have used them for bait smallmouth fishing with no luck at all. When I clean smallies I find them in their stomach's. I wonder why?

I 've caught smallies on crawfish imitators but it seems like everytime I use the real thing other species gets it first.

guess it depends where, how and when you fish it... I haven't used crawfish lately but used to catch drum, catfish, bass etc on fresh caught crawfish.

I have wore smallmouth out on live crawfish. IMO one of the best baits for smallmouth there is.

i seem to do better on the smaller rivers(pigeon,tellico, little river...)with crawdads than on the bigger lakes.
